An Introduction to Omaha Holdem
The game of Omaha is basically referred to as Omaha Holdem or simply Omaha. This is actually a poker game which is quite similar to Texas Hold'em. Actually, the games Omaha and Texas Holdem are similar because the players use community cards to form their hands in these games. The players are dealt with four face-down cards and they will use these cards and the community cards to create their hands.
The Popular Omaha Game
Omaha is one of the most popular poker games. This is played in both online and offline casinos. Although it comes second to Texas Hold'em when it comes to popularity, the game attracts many casino players. The significant difference, however, between Omaha and Texas Holdem lies on the fact that Omaha allows its players to choose their cards from the nine cards.
One of the popular versions of Omaha is the Omaha Hi/Lo. Actually, this version does not have any significant differences from the basic Omaha game. Its name refers to the fact that both the players with the highest and lowest hand at the end of the game split the pot between themselves. This is why this particular Omaha version is popular among casino players.
How to Play Omaha Holdem
The structure of an Omaha Holdem game is fairly similar to Texas Holdem as well. To start the game, the player sitting or positioned at the left of the Dealer's Button must place the small blind and the player sitting next to him or her must placed the Big Blind. These are called forced bets. These bets should be placed in order to mark the beginning of the game.
Beginning from the player placing the small blind, four hole cards are then dealt to each player. The player must use two of his or her hole cards in order to form his hand. He will add these cards to the community cards that will be dealt face up.
After the players receive their cards, a round of betting, starting with the player sitting to the left of the big blind, will then ensued. Accordingly, the players will then raise, call or fold their cards. After the first round of betting, the deck's top card is then eliminated faced down and the House deals the flop. A flop refers to the three cards that are dealt facing up. Another round of betting will then follow and once completed, the deck's second card is again eliminated. Subsequently, the turn card or the fourth card is then dealt and this will be followed by another round of betting. Once the round of betting is completed, another card is then burnt if there are still players left at the table. The dealer will then release the final community card which is referred to as the river. Another round of betting will then follow. After which, the players will then reveal their cards.
The game of Omaha Holdem is quite simple. Its mechanics are similar to Texas Holdem. It is also an equally enjoyable and profitable game of poker.
